Great Pacific Garbage Patch
Original Watercolor, Cold press, 9 x 12
I used to work for for the non profit Don’t Waste Durham. We are the front line for educating local communities about trash waste and battling it on a daily basis with GreenToGo operations to reduce to go trash from ending up in the landfill. The inspiration for this artwork came after I watched the documentary “When Sharks Attack” on National Geographic Wild, (Season 5, Episode 6) Trouble in SoCal. I was horrified after learning that there is a swirl of plastic trash floating in the Pacific Ocean the size of the state of Texas. Having lived close to the ocean in California for the past 30 years, it is inconceivable to think about this amount of pollution floating just halfway between the coast and Hawaii, but yet it exists and there are several others. This piece was created to inspire others, and bring attention to this issue during Plastic Free Month in July 2020.
